What can the candidate bring into the examination room?
Only HB pencils, sharpeners and erasers. Correction fluid and highlighters must not be used. No food, drinks, sweets or chocolate are allowed in the test room. Mobile phones, MP3 players and electronic keyrings must be switched off and left with your bag and other possessions outside the examination room in our secure storage area. Any candidate who does not switch off their phone/MP3 player, or who retains one in their possession, will be disqualified.
Is the IELTS test completed in one day?
The Listening, Reading and Writing components of the test are always completed immediately after each other and in this order. The Speaking test can be taken on any one of the 7 days before or after the test date.
What kind of accents can be heard in the Listening and Speaking tests?
As IELTS is an international test, a variety of English accents are used in both of these examinations.
Does the listening CD provide the candidate with necessary instructions and pauses?
Yes. At the beginning of the test, candidates receive instructions and hear a sample question. Next, candidates read Section One questions and then listen to Section One and answer the questions on the question paper as they listen. The same procedure follows for Sections Two, Three and Four. This takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. In the following final ten minutes, candidates transfer their answers onto the answer sheet.
Is there a similar period of ten minutes at the end of the Reading test for the transfer of answers?
No. The Reading test is one hour, and you must write all your answers on the answer sheet during this time
Can I complete the Listening and Reading answer sheet in pen?
No. The answer sheet is scanned by a computer which cannot read pen.
Can I make some notes on the Listening and Reading question paper?
Yes. But the examiner will not see your question paper and no marks will be given for answers written there.
How is the Speaking test conducted?
The Speaking test is conducted in a one-to-one interview with a certified examiner and is recorded on a digital recorder.
What should the candidate bring to the Speaking test?
The same ID (passport/melli card) you registered with. If your ID has been renewed since registration, you must update your profile before reserving a test. Please note that candidates are not allowed to bring any watches, mobiles or any electronic devices to the test room.
What happens if a candidate wants to postpone or cancel their application?
IELTS regulations do not permit refunds or transfers to be processed during the 5 week period prior to the test. Outside this period, candidates should send their request to email@example.com An administration charge is made for this service.
Please note that even a candidate registers during the 5 week period, not transfer or cancellation can be accepted.
What is IELTS UKVI?

How soon can candidates repeat the test?
Candidates can take the test again at the next available test date, but are reminded that scores are unlikely to improve dramatically without English language tuition in the interim.
What happens if a candidate is absent on the day of the test without giving prior notice?
You will lose your full test fee. However, if you cannot attend your test due to serious, unforeseen circumstances, please print and fill out the IELTS Transfer/Refund Form and return it with the Official Signed Evidence Form to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than 16:00 5 days after test day. You must return BOTH forms.
For Saturday tests, your deadline is 16:00 on the following Wednesday and for Thursday tests, your deadline is 16:00 on the following Monday.
Requests and documents received after this time cannot be granted. You will be advised within one week whether or not your request has been approved, and an administration fee amounting to 25% of the test fee will be charged. Please note that it then takes 2-3 months to process your refund.
How many Test Report Forms can candidates have?
Each candidate is entitled to ONE copy of their TRF. At any time within a month of the date of the examination, a candidate can apply to the center which administered the test to have 5 free copies of the original Test Report Form sent to receiving organization. These Test Report Forms will not be sent to the candidates themselves, but to the universities, embassies and institutions so candidates should pay the postal charges. When will the candidate receive their results?
The results are issued 13 days after test day. Candidates can access their results online by clicking on the red preview button at the top of any page of this website. When you come for your speaking test, you will be asked to write your address on an envelope for registered delivery of your TRF to your home address.
What can candidates do if they are unhappy with their results?
Candidates may apply for an EOR (enquiry on results) within six weeks of test day at the center where they took their test. There is a fee of AU$176 which is refunded should the band score increase. Please click here for further details
What help is available for special needs candidates?
IELTS test centres make every effort to cater for the special needs of any candidate, to enable them to best understand questions and tasks and to give their answers. It is our aim for the language level of all candidates, irrespective of disability, to be assessed fairly and objectively. Candidates with special needs should email email@example.com well in advance of their chosen test date so that appropriate arrangements can be made. Note that Cambridge requires up to 3 months notice for this.
What happens if a candidate is delayed by circumstances beyond their control (e.g. a transportation strike)?
IELTS Tehran will offer you an alternative test date as soon as possible.
